Planning is underway to make safety upgrades to part of Melbourne’s Canterbury Road, a key freight route due to its east-west link from Camberwell to Montrose and access to the Eastlink highway.
The upcoming works are intended to make the Canterbury and Heathmont Road intersection safer for pedestrians and motorists.
Planned improvements include the introduction of a shared path crossing across Canterbury Road with bicycle lanterns, flashing ‘Give Way to Pedestrians’ signs, fully controlled right hand turns from Canterbury Road and the creation of a wider footpath on the northern side of Canterbury Road across the rail bridge.
Construction is expected to commence in mid-2025.
Further updates on the works will be issued as planning progresses.
The new announcement of works is the latest in a string of roadworks set to improve the route, with safety, connectivity and traffic flow upgrades happening at the intersection with Waterloo Street.
