Hino Motor Sales Australia (HMSA) has issued a recall notice for 5704 of its Hino 500 Series trucks due to a manufacturing defect.
The recall affects variants FD and FE in the year range 2018-2024.
The notice warns that the chassis wiring harness may come in contact with the engine side cover, engine side cover bracket or cabin arch.
As a result, the wiring could become damaged and cause a short circuit. In a worst-case scenario, this may result in a vehicle fire.
HMSA said replacement parts will not be available until late August 2024.
When parts are available, HMSA will write to vehicle owners by priority mail inviting them to make an appointment with their nearest Hino dealer to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge.
