Cunninghams Gap will temporarily close to oversize vehicles wider than 2.55m and/or longer than 30.5m, as works take place to reduce the steep grade of the road.
From 6pm on Friday September 6 until 5am on Tuesday September 10, intensive construction will continue at Cunninghams Gap.
Oversize-vehicle access will be temporarily closed during this time for construction to occur within the narrow road widths at this section of the Cunningham Highway.
Operators of oversize vehicles will need to check the Conditions of Operations Database and seek an alternative route.
All traffic will be under a single lane through Cunninghams Gap during this time. For the safety of motorists and work crews, a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place.
Once completed, heavy vehicles travelling up the range are expected to experience an easier ascent at the final bend of the highway at Cunninghams Gap.

Push a tunnel from the helicopter pad and come out at Freestone. Make it 6 mtrs high and dual lanes both ways. The next time the gap collapses, it will remain closed for good. Better to start on the tunnel now than wait for the collapse.
Tunnel is the way to go both for road and rail. forget cross river rail or numerous green bridges in the city, massive waste of tax payer money when important connectors like the cunningham highway snakes its way painfully through the range.
