A truckie is lucky to be alive after his B-double careened across the Pacific Highway and crashed down an embankment near Maclean in northern NSW yesterday.
Remarkably, the driver only received minor injuries in the incident which left firefighters from Gulmarrad, Maclean and Grafton faced with around 500 litres of diesel fuel that spilt from the truck’s ruptured fuel tanks.
Fire and Rescue NSW released drone footage today of the major recovery operation that lasted several hours as crews worked to free the driver and rig from the scrub.
The truck came to rest about 30 metres into the gully.
One lane was blocked as a crane was brought in to lift the prime mover and its empty trailer out of the bush during the prolonged emergency operation.
