Truckies are advised of some major traffic condition changes on Maitland Road at Hexham next week as work ramps up on the Hexham Straight widening project in Newcastle, NSW.
On September 2-3 there will be a temporary closure of the steel bridge over the Hunter River between 8.30pm and 4am.
A contraflow will be in place and there will be no right turn for motorists or truckies travelling to Sydney/Maitland from the Pacific Highway.
Truckies must use the temporary U-turn on Maitland Road, 350m from the intersection.
A temporary speed limit of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during ongoing day work, and a reduction to 40km/h during night works.
To minimise impact to drivers, work will be carried out overnight from 7pm to 5am.
OSOM operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m or with overall width wider than 4.5m are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.
Significant delays will occur if failure to contact, warned Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
“Vehicles travelling under a permit MUST NOT travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the NHVR,” added the TfNSW advisory note.
Major work will continue from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, out of hours from 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday and Saturday between 8am and 1pm.
All drivers are advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers, use alternative routes where possible or allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
