$202 million for regional NSW roads

A total of $202 million is being invested by the NSW state government, for 72 separate road safety projects across regional, rural and remote parts of the state.

Regional communities account for about a third of the state’s population, but deaths on regional roads make up approximately two thirds of all road deaths in NSW.

The funding is being delivered as part of the NSW government’s $2.8 billion road safety budget, as round two of the Towards Zero-Safer Roads Program.

The Towards Zero – Safer Roads Program is a road safety infrastructure upgrade and speed management program that aims to address high risk locations.

The upgrades will include things like installing safety barriers and shoulder widening to help reduce the risk of crashes on higher speed country roads.

Projects receiving the largest chunk of spend include:

  • $24.3 million for shoulder widening, wide centreline, and safety barrier installation on Mitchell Highway, Geurie
  • $18.8 million for roadside safety barrier and delineation improvements on Lachlan Valley Way, Cowra
