Northside Diesel: ‘We do it once and do it right’

Based at Caboolture in Queensland, Northside Diesel is now under new ownership – with Michael and Chris Sage taking over the business at the end of 2023.

From its 10-bay workshop, featuring all the latest technology and equipment, Northside Diesel specialises in providing top-quality servicing, repairs, and maintenance for trucks of all makes and models. That’s in addition to being a service agent for Volvo, Mack and UD Trucks, along with having service agreements with various other suppliers too.

The business sits on a one-acre piece of land, with 1000 square metres of undercover sheds.

“At Northside Diesel, we specialise in anything with a diesel engine – from trucks and machinery, through to cars and motorhomes. We have a six-bay truck workshop, a three-bay automotive workshop and a wash-bay,” explained Michael.

“Our main body of work are the owner operators and small fleets, but we do have numerous large and mid-sized fleets that use our services too. Customers can ring us any time and know that we’ll be able to help them and fit them in – whether you’ve got one truck or many.”

In addition to the onsite facilities, Northside Diesel offers a breakdown service, within a radius of around 300 kilometres of the Caboolture site.

Husband and wife team Michael and Chris are joined by their right-hand man Dirk Neale, who serves as Northside Diesel’s manager. He’s a qualified diesel mechanic who oversees the entire workshop operation and spare parts division. “He’s essentially the go-to guy when any of our technicians have a problem or need advice,” Michael added.

“It was a reasonably steep learning curve when we took over, fortunately Dirk was here.”

Dirk joined the business two and a half years ago, starting out on the workshop floor and working his way up to leading hand, and more recently into the role of manager.

“I love trucks and cars,” said Dirk. “I started out as a light vehicle mechanic, then progressed into heavy vehicles.”

Dirk continued, “Here, it’s all about service. The people that come to us aren’t just a number. We do the job once and we do it right. We want to create long-term relationships with our customers.”

Michael agreed, “Integrity is a really big part of what we do and who we are. If someone comes to us, we don’t want to just throw parts at the problem – we want to diagnose and resolve that problem,” he said.

“We want people leaving here happy with the level of service they’ve received, so we can create repeat business. We’re here to look after our customers and invite any new customers to come and speak with us.”

Michael added that every dollar made at Northside Diesel is invested straight back into the business, investing in its people through ongoing specialist training, and constantly reviewing its equipment. “We’re not here for the short term, we’re here for the long term,” he said.

The business has spared no expense in equipping its workshop with the latest diagnostic tools and equipment. This cutting-edge technology enables Northside Diesel’s skilled technicians to accurately identify and address even the most complex mechanical and electronic issues with precision. The business is equipped with tools to tackle everything from advanced engine diagnostics to comprehensive electrical system analyses.

As Dirk added, the team is always on the ball and ready to adapt to change. “We already have excellent equipment, but there’s always new equipment and technology coming through,” he said.

“As trucks continue to change, we’ll keep changing and adapting as well.”
