Registration is now open for the Safe Container Loading and Transport Practices Seminar Series, which will be held in eight cities throughout October and November.
The seminars are being hosted by Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA), in collaboration with Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), Australian Peak Shippers (APSA), National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and CoRsafe.
Targeted at importers, exporters, freight forwarders, container terminals, transport operators, warehouse operators, cargo freight stations and government, they will cover a range of topics.
This will include the latest advice, updates and resources on safe container loading, unloading and transport practices; along with the commercial and safety dangers of poorly packed, overloaded or unrestrained cargo inside shipping containers.
CTAA, which is an alliance of businesses engaged in the container transport logistics industry, says that a heavy vehicle carrying a laden shipping container is 30 per cent more likely to be involved in a roll-over incident due to unbalanced, poorly loaded or insecurely restrained cargo within the container.
“Unbalanced, poorly restrained and mis-declared containerised cargoes not only increase vessel and land transport safety risks but have the potential to be commercially very costly if the cargo is damaged or contributes to a safety incident,” CTAA said.
“All parties in the logistics chain have legal obligations to ensure the safe loading, cargo restraint, transport and unloading of shipping containers, and to ensure accurate gross weight declarations.”
The seminars are funded through the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI) administered by the NHVR, on behalf of the Commonwealth Government.
Being held across five states, the seminar series was among the successful projects to be funded under round 7 of the HVSI (in 2022-2023) which included 15 projects sharing in $3.5 million.
