Planned Logan Motorway upgrades are expected to remove an estimated 6100 trucks and cars from local roads each day, and reduce travel times by up to 20 minutes during peak periods by 2031 – but it will be quite some time before any construction actually begins.
Transurban and the Queensland Government are currently in the process of developing plans to upgrade approximately 10km of the western section of the Logan Motorway, between Formation Street and the Mount Lindesay Highway.
The proposed project involves adding an additional lane in each direction between the Centenary Motorway and the Mount Lindesay Highway, upgrades to key motorway interchanges including Formation Street, and the installation of smart motorway technology.
Transurban says that with an estimated 210,000 trips made on the Logan Motorway daily, and expected increases in traffic by 35 per cent by 2041, the project is crucial in ensuring the motorway’s efficiency and safety in the future.
The project was officially announced in July this year, with community engagement underway from now through to December.
A reference design is expected to be released by mid-2025, with construction not expected to begin until late 2027 – and then be completed by 2032.
