Volvo may have set a strong early pace for the first part of 2024, but a resurgent Kenworth now looks set to retain its heavy-duty crown yet again.
In the latest sales numbers from the Truck Industry Council, Kenworth dominated from the top with an impressive 382 units moved in September, good enough for a 25 per cent monthly market share.
That’s 78 more Kenworth trucks than what changed hands in the same month last year.
Although 286 sets of Volvo keys also changed hands last month, which is nothing to sneeze about in itself, Kenworth has opened up what should be an unssailable lead over the Wacol badge.
Kenworth now sits on 2703 units year-to-date (YTD), 286 clear of Volvo on 2417. This time last year, Kenworth was on 2564 YTD and Volvo on 2538.
Isuzu comfortably retains the number three spot with a huge month for a brand that still doesn’t have a prime mover in the Australian market.
Isuzu notched 207 sales and now sits on 1806 YTD, good enough for an overall market share of 14 percent.
Scania looks to have a pretty good hold on fourth in the overall standings after recording 113 deliveries in September, but Mercedes-Benz closed some ground with a strong 111 for the month.
With just three months to go, Scania is on 1146 YTD and Mercedes-Benz is on 825, good enough for 8.9 and 6.4 market shares respectively.
Overall, Isuzu had another bumper month to cement its long-running dominance in Australia.
Its total sales numbers across all sectors for September was 1097, representing a 24.1 per cent market share.
That’s 37 units more than it sold in in the same month in 2023, but Isuzu is 500 units behind its YTD numbers compared with last year.
