Truckies’ campaigner Wes Walker only had one minor design note for authorities after his first inspection of the site for the new Gatton breakdown pads toilet block last week.
Walker said he’d like to see towaway zone signage and yellow lines near the entry to discourage any drivers from inadvertently blocking the entrance to the wheelchair access with their trucks and make the new prefabricated block easier to spot.
“I’ve got to get a quote off a proper linemarking mob, so they’re listening to me a little bit,” said the disability pensioner who spent three long years lobbying for the facilities, which included an appearance on A Current Affair.
Walker was also pleased to hear that the three cubicles should be open for use by the end of November, and that the Department of Transport and Main Roads had also inquired about the feasibility of installing another single toilet on the opposite side of the site.
“I think it’s a great idea,” he said.
Walker was also thrilled to see all the trailers at Gatton tucked in “nice and tight” together, the best he’s seen it since the site officially opened in May 2021.
“I’d still like to see lines down there so we can utilise the site to its full advantage. If we had lines we could utilise it like that permanently.
“The same with dollies – if drivers would just put their dollies up around the front.”
