Victoria Police has shared a message reminding motorists to share the road safely with heavy vehicles travelling across the state, as we head into harvest season.
“Typically, heavy vehicles contribute to 30 per cent of traffic on our roads but during harvest season, this figure more than doubles. We’re also expecting to see an increase in overall traffic as the weather heats up,” Victoria Police said in a Facebook post.
To prepare for sharing the road safely this harvest season, Victoria police says drivers should know where a truck’s blind spots are (and avoid them, be mindful of stopping distances, know how to safely overtake heavy vehicles, and ensure they don’t cut in front of a truck.
“The heavier the truck, the longer it takes for them to come to stop,” Victoria Police reminded motorists.
“Whether you’re behind the wheel of a truck or sharing the road this harvest season, please remember that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
