A Queensland truckie has shared dash cam footage of a close call on the Bruce Highway that could have had a very different ending.
Niell Graham was heading south to Mackay, having just passed the Greenacres Roadhouse at Giru, when the frightening incident occurred.
“I was in a B-double with another truck behind me, and this car overtook both me and the other truck,” he told Big Rigs.
“The car very nearly caused a major accident but luckily the oncoming car managed to pull to the left, and only just managed to avoid hitting the black car.”
Graham said he was a bit shaken at the time, as he didn’t expect the car to overtake out of nowhere.
“The semi behind me would pop out every now and then just to have a look,” he said.
“I saw the lights, I didn’t think anything of it – then it wasn’t until the lights from the car filled my mirror that I thought ‘What the bloody hell?’
“The car had just absolutely floored it, trying to overtake the semi and me in a B-double in a matter of seconds, and not seen the oncoming car. It could have been a real mess.”
Graham wanted to share the dash cam footage to highlight the dangers facing truckies on the roads.
“That bit of road is actually my favourite stretch on the highway, between Townsville and Bowen,” he said.
“It’s straight and flat…And then you get idiots doing that sort of shit.”

Bro, I feel and know the frustration. As a fellow truckie, there is nothing you can do. All you can do is, keep yourself safe. As annoying and pissing off, as it is, it’s all you can do. The shear stupidity of other so called lv drivers, is on them !! They are in so much of a hurry and must get front of that truck, then slam on the breaks and turn off, is one of the many reasons I went back to mining. I feel safer, somewhat and alot less stressed and not under pressure. Sorry but, there is eff all anyone can do.
