Transport community to come together in support of late truckie’s family

Friends of truck driver Luke Vella, who tragically died in a work accident last month, are encouraging the transport community to come along to a special fundraising event for his family.

Luke Roberts and Jake Cusbert have arranged a truck meet at Marsden Park in Sydney this weekend.

Truckies can bring their rigs and their loved ones along to the IKEA car park from 7pm on Saturday November 23 for an evening of live music and catch-ups, with raffles in aid of Vella’s family and donations being collected.

“Luke was going to get married next year, and he had four kids under the age of 10,” Roberts told Big Rigs.

“We wanted to raise some money for his family, and also just celebrate him.

“We hope to see a good turnout for this legend of a bloke.”

Roberts has also collaborated with Lucky Inger Designs to create t-shirts and hoodies in memory of his late friend, with any profits going to Vella’s family.

Anyone interested should sent Roberts a direct message on Facebook, with an order going out on Monday November 25.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page set up by Heather Gillespie has already raised more than $58,000 to help Luke Vella’s fiancé Bec and their kids.

The high school sweethearts had been together for 15 years and Luke was the main breadwinner for the family.

The NSW father died after two trucks collided at the intersection of Agnew-Leinster Road and Agnew-Vivien Road in Leinster about 4.20pm on Monday, October 21.

The driver of the other truck was uninjured, according to reports.
