A range of safety improvements have been completed along Brisbane Valley Highway, between the Warrego Highway and Fernvale.
The $14.4 million upgrades have been delivered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), aiming to reduce the frequency and severity of head-on and run-off-road type crashes.
This stretch of road is a busy route for motorists travelling to Brisbane and Ipswich, with around 10,000 vehicles using it each day.
Works include the installation of a wide centre line treatment, dedicated right and left-turn lanes at designated intersections, as well as guardrail and vegetation clearing to remove roadside hazards.
As North Coast Regional Director Scott Whitaker explained, “The Brisbane Valley Highway is a major arterial road where there have been several head-on and run-off-road type crashes in recent years.
“The new safety improvements, such as the wide centre line treatment, will deliver a safer journey for motorists through creating greater separation between northbound and southbound traffic.
“This type of treatment can significantly reduce the potential for head-on crashes.”
Queensland Police Service (QPS) also has a newly constructed police enforcement bay on this heavily utilised stretch of the Brisbane Valley Highway.
