Penske issues recall for 365 trucks in Western Star X-Series

Penske Australia has issued a recall notice for 365 trucks in its Western Star X-Series due to a software issue.

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may not illuminate to alert the driver of a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) efficiency emission related problem.

The impacted models are 47X, 48X and 49X in the variants 47XDD4125, 47XDD4175, 47XDD7250, 48XDD4375, 48XDD7250, 49XDD4375 and 49XDD7250. All trucks are in the year range 2022-23.

Penske said there is no safety hazard and the defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle, but impacted trucks may not be compliant with the ADR 80/03 – Emission Control for Heavy Vehicles.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their preferred Western Star dealer to arrange to have the software updated, free of charge.
