After being forced to close as water from the Burdekin River rose, the Macrossan Bridge is now being reopened to traffic.
Legacy Haulage driver Deano Hutch, who drives triples and road trains between Brisbane and North Queensland each week, contacted Big Rigs as he waited to cross over.
“About to cross any minute now,” he said, adding that council workers had inspected the site and were doing a final clean-up before giving the all clear.
Deano heard whispers of the bridge reopening just prior, so packed his things and headed down in the truck – and was the first truck in the queue coming eastbound. Within about 30 minutes of waiting, he says traffic began flowing through.
He estimates the queue of traffic waiting for the bridge to reopen, on the eastbound side, stretched for several kilometres. “There was traffic lined up down to the Burdekin Duck Roadhouse,” he revealed.
