A 1200-kilometre alternative route into Far North Queensland is no longer a viable option, with floodwaters still wreaking havoc.
That option was provided late last night by Transport and Main Roads Queensland (TMR), described as “the only alternative route”.
But as of earlier today, the Gulf Developmental Road, located 241km southwest of Cairns, has been closed due to floodwaters affecting access.
“Please note that the alternate route, communicated yesterday, has now been cancelled. We are actively investigating other alternative routes and will provide updates as soon as possible,” said TMR.
