Followmont explains why it now has a temporary surcharge in North Queensland

Followmont Transport boss Mark Tobin has taken to social media to explain why his company has imposed a temporary surcharge on its flood-impacted North Queensland services.

“Please know that this temporary surcharge is a difficult but necessary measure,” said the Followmont Managing Director on his company’s Facebook page.

“It does not come close to covering the immense costs we are facing to continue operating in our communities, but it allows us to keep essential services running.

“Our team is working around the clock, many contributing voluntary hours to ensure people get back on their feet as soon as possible.

“Our drivers are covering extra kilometres to deliver critical supplies to affected areas, with some sleeping in their trucks, while depots push through overwhelming workloads.”

Tobin said the company did not take the surcharge decision lightly and had absorbed costs wherever possible.

“But operating under these conditions is not sustainable without this short-term adjustment. Without it, we simply would not be able to reach these locations, letting down both our people and the communities we serve.

“We are not alone in making these tough choices, this crisis has impacted the entire transport industry. Yet, we remain committed to doing everything we can to maintain a safe and viable solution.”

Tobin said Followmont plays a crucial role in delivering medical supplies and food to North Queensland.

“It is in everyone’s best interest that we continue these services so that life-saving medication reaches those who need it, and communities can access essential goods,” Tobin added.

“Our hearts go out to the families without power, water, or supplies. No matter the obstacle, we will be there, ensuring help reaches those who need it most.

“I would like to reinforce that this surcharge is only temporary, and normal trade will resume once possible.

“From a Queensland family business that truly cares, our thoughts are with everyone affected in these challenging times.

“Please stay safe and take care.”
