Roads remain closed as parts of Queensland brace for more wild weather

Severe weather warnings continue in Queensland’s Far North, with significant rainfall expected to continue in various regions through to Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in areas that include Townsville, Georgetown, Normanton, Palm Island, Ingham and Croydon.

“Rainfall has redeveloped about the Townsville area during early Monday morning with the potential for stronger showers and thunderstorms to produce localised heavy rainfall which may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding,” BOM warned this morning.

“Broader areas of heavy rainfall are then forecast to develop later on Monday and Tuesday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 120 to 180 mm are possible during Monday, and could increase further on Tuesday. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 220 mm are possible.”

Charters Towers Regional Council also revealed that access from Charters Towers to Townsville, Greenvale, Belyando and Hughenden remains cut off:
