Over $164,000 raised at inaugural Newcastle convoy

The first ever Camp Quality Newcastle Convoy has smashed its fundraising goal of $120,000 – with $164,400 raised to support kids facing cancer (and counting).

Held on Sunday March 9, 170 trucks hit the road, travelling the 38-kilometre loop that started and finished at Maitland Showground, followed by a free festival for the whole family.

Organisers say the coveted Lead Truck – which goes to the individual raising the most money – was hotly contested, with a tight race to the finish line.

Topping the list of individual fundraisers was James Tiedeman, who raised a whopping $16,314, earning the Lead Truck #1. Following in second spot was Matthew Russell, who raised $7564 and in third place was Scott Harvey, with $6825 raised.

The highest fundraising corporate team was Macs of VCV Newcastle ($22,466 raised) and the highest fundraising community team was Charlie O’Donnel ($16,600 raised).

“The Newcastle trucking community blew us away,” said organisers. “Seeing the streets lined with cheering supporters was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together.

“Your support means the world to the kids and families who need it most. What a way to kick off our very first Camp Quality Convoy Newcastle. We are so excited to bring Convoy Newcastle back in 2026!”

While organisers haven’t revealed too much yet, they say plans are underway to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
