Truckies face changed overnight traffic conditions from later this week on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Newscastle, NSW, due to essential maintenance on a 10km section.
Northbound lanes of the motorway between the Hunter Expressway and the John Renshaw Drive intersection will be closed from 7.30pm to 4.30am on the nights of Sunday, March 16, Monday, March 17 and Tuesday, March 18.
They will reopen at 4.30am on Wednesday, March 19, weather permitting.
Southbound lanes will be closed from 7.30pm to 4.30am on Wednesday, March 19, and Thursday, March 20, reopening at 4.30am on Friday, March 21, weather permitting.
Operators of Class One, Two and Three vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Register.
Changed traffic conditions and a detour will be in place during the M1 closure via John Renshaw Drive and the Hunter Expressway.
The detour is expected to add about 10km or 10-15 minutes’ travel time to journeys.
Work to be carried out includes road resurfacing and repairs, improving drains and road shoulders, bridge maintenance, litter collection and mowing and would not be possible under single lane closures.
Electronic message signs will direct motorists if an additional night closure is required and will be in place to help direct motorists, who are advised to follow the direction of traffic control and keep to speed limits.
