Footage released of road train narrowly avoiding head-on crash

South Australia Police (SAPOL) have released dashcam footage they allege shows a truck driver veering into the path of oncoming traffic as the driver tries to overtake another truck in Ceduna, SA.

The incident, which happened in October last year, features a road train, loaded with 90 tonne of salt, travelling south on Murat Terrace.

The truck moves onto the incorrect side of the road as it enters a right-hand sweeping bend.

Police say two vehicles travelling north on Murat Terrace are forced to steer into the parking lane to avoid a head-on collision with the offending truck.

Ceduna Police have since tracked down the 60-year-old truck driver from Port Lincoln and reported him for driving in a manner dangerous to the public.

He was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and he will be summonsed to appear in Ceduna Magistrates Court at a later date.

“Anything like this always highlights the need for road safety and safe work practices,” a police spokesperson said.
