A Perth intersection typically used by over 44,000 vehicles every day is set to receive a major overhaul.
The intersection of Leach Highway and Manning Road in Bentley is the second most congested in Western Australia, costing an estimated $18.2 million in lost productivity each year.
Over the past five years, the intersection has also been the site of 105 crashes.
The new funding will go towards the first stage of the project, which will include a grade-separated interchange to help ease congestion and improve safety.
Commenting on the funding announcement, Member for Burt, Matt Keogh, said the project will be a game-changer for the south-eastern suburbs, making journeys faster and safer.
“Unclogging our roads ensures ongoing economic growth, more jobs, and helps cut transport costs that are otherwise passed onto consumers,” he said.
Member for Swan, Zaneta Mascarenhas, added, “I’m thrilled the Albanese Labor Government is investing $90 million to widen Leach Highway and Manning Road.
“No one likes sitting in traffic. These upgrades will ease congestion, cut travel times, and make our roads safer.”
