Truck sales off to a solid start in federal election year

A total of 3446 vehicles were sold across all categories in February, according to the latest data released by the Truck Industry Council.

That’s just 425 shy of last year’s record tally for the month and the third largest volume of sales recorded for the short month.

Isuzu was again streets clear of any other manufacturer as it charges to an inevitable 37th straight year as the most popular brand in Australia.

It ended the month with an impressive 1029 units on the board, and although that’s slightly under the 2024 numbers of 1050, Isuzu has already strengthened its year-to-date (YTD) market share by 2.2 per cent.

The Japanese powerhouse continues to punch above its weight in the heavy-duty section too.

Cabover kings Kenworth put a big buffer on the chasers with 248 for February, good enough for a 23 per cent YTD market share, but Isuzu is making Volvo work hard to wrestle back the second slot.

The Swedish giant made up some ground last month with 203 sales versus Isuzu’s 193, but is still 11 units behind in third overall so far in 2025.

The other intriguing battle emerging in the sector is the tussle for fourth spot.

Mercedes-Benz and Scania are neck and neck with Mercedes-Benz holding the slenderest of margins, 167 versus 166, two months into the year.

In the medium-duty sector, sales appear to have cooled slightly more compared with 2024.

Isuzu, however, is again well clear of the opposition with 536 deliveries and a 51.5 per cent YTD market share.
