Towns are cut off and roads closed in parts of outback Queensland, as heavy rain continues to lash parts of the state.
With more heavy rain forecast, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued major flood warnings for the Bulloo River; Georgina River and Eyre Creek; Paroo River (Qld); Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and Cooper Creek; Warrego River (QLD); and Western River.
The trough will move slowly east over the next day or two and off the southeast coast on Sunday, though the northern branch of the trough will linger across northern and central Queensland into next week. Another trough may drift southward near the central and southeast coast during today and Saturday before push offshore on Sunday. A weak ridge will extend over over southern Queensland from Sunday.
There are outback towns in western and northern Queensland being evacuated, as they become completely cut off by road due to flooding.
Due to flooding, parts of the Bruce Highway, Mitchell Highway, Flinders Highway and Landsborough Highway are among the roads that are closed.
