During a Programmed Vehicle Inspection (PVI), NHVR’s Safety and Compliance Officers discovered a major issue in this vehicle’s wheel bearings.
The wheel bearings were found to have significant end float. “Excessive end float can cause various issues such as vibration through the vehicle, locking of the wheel and excessive heat which could lead to a fire. All of which can become serious safety concerns,” said the NHVR.
The regulator also issued a reminder about the importance of regular maintenance.
“It’s crucial to make sure your vehicle has regular maintenance to not only ensure the safety of all road users, but to improve reliability of equipment and prevent the high cost of repair,” the NHVR said, adding that anyone who feels pressured to drive an unsafe vehicle should contact the Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line on 1800 931 785.
