Work underway on improving NSW freight route near Bowning

Truckies will soon enjoy smoother journeys on the Lachlan Valley Way near Bowning with work to start this week on upgrades that will deliver a stronger and safer road, said Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

The NSW Government has provided $1.2 million to deliver the improvements on a 1.7-kilometre section located about six kilometres north of the Lachlan Valley Way intersection with the Hume Highway.

TfNSW Regional Director South, Cassandra Ffrench, said Lachlan Valley Way is an important freight route, linking the south west slopes of NSW to the Hume Highway and ports of Melbourne and Sydney.

“This work will include rebuilding the road surface and installing safety measures, including flexible barriers,” Ffrench said.

“Safety barriers have been shown to reduce the severity of high-risk crashes by up to 95 per cent.”

Ffrench said these important safety upgrades will help reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes at this location while also delivering a smoother and stronger road for motorists.

Work will be carried out weekdays between 7am and 6pm from Monday, April 28 and is expected to be completed by mid-June, weather permitting.

Single lane closures, a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h and stop/slow traffic control will be in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Truckies are advised to drive to the conditions, allow an extra five minutes’ travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
