At NTI, safety isn’t just something they talk about – it’s something they actively invest in.

Since establishing the National Truck Accident Research Centre (NTARC) almost 20 years ago, the annual NTARC Report has been one of the transport industry’s most trusted sources of data and insights into major heavy vehicle incidents. Over the last year, it has been taken a step further.
NTI’s partnership with the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and affiliated National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) aims to expand the reach and impact of industry research, and help turn insights into action.
So, what’s the partnership all about?
NTI’s Executive General Manager – Strategy and Supply Chain, Chris Hogarty says the goal is to improve safety outcomes across the transport industry by making independent, evidence-based research easier to access, understand, and to apply in real-world settings.
“Our aim is for NTARC to continuously evolve, to keep it relevant, independent, and its insights improving safety within the heavy vehicle sector,” explained Chris.
“MUARC and NRSPP brings additional research expertise and academic credibility to the table, helping to ensure the insights are robust, reliable, and designed to help operators on the ground make safer decisions.”
Why this matters for transport operators
Time and resources. Most operators don’t have the capacity to deep-dive into reports or research papers. That’s why this partnership is designed with practicality in mind.
“The NTARC report offers a clear picture of the trends seen across heavy vehicle incidents – what’s happening, what’s causing it, and how it’s changing over time,” said Chris.
“The partnership ensures those findings are packaged into easy-to-digest tools and resources, so operators can see what applies to them and consider taking action.”
Need to know what common incident types are on the rise? Want to understand where distraction or fatigue are having the biggest impact? It’s all there – and it’s available for free.
“There’s no competitive advantage in road safety. This is about livelihoods, and at the end of the day, safety for all road users,” Chris added.
This partnership is just another way NTI continues to evolve, expand and give back to industry through more than just insurance.
The next report is set to be released later this year. In the meantime, view the most recent report and resources at nrspp.org.au by looking for NTARC under the Partner Programs menu.
