Police have revoked an emergency declaration made earlier today after reports of gunfire, which briefly closed the Bruce Highway this afternoon.
It led to traffic chaos on the Sunshine Coast, south of Gympie.
Queensland Police says officers were called just after 12.15pm, with reports of shots being fired towards the Bruce Highway, adjacent to Maher Road.
As a result, an exclusion zone was established while police responded, encompassing Maher Road and both directions of the Bruce Highway adjacent to Maher Road.
Residents within the exclusion zone were asked to stay indoors and members of the public and motorists to avoid the area.
It’s now been revealed that the shots were actually from target practice on a nearby property.
“The earlier emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act has been revoked. There is no ongoing threat to the public,” Queensland Police said.
