Moore Trailers to auction dolly for charity

Moore Trailers will be displaying a tri-axle dolly it plans to auction off for charity, at its stand at the Brisbane Truck Show.

All proceeds from the sale of the dolly will go towards the manufacturer’s fundraising efforts for the upcoming Road Boss Rally – a charity race taking place from July 2-16 in Alice Springs.

Moore Trailers has been a regular participant of the Road Boss Rally for about 30 years, starting with the company’s founder Lionel Moore – and now continuing with his son Shayne Moore.

The Road Boss Rally specialises in long, remote and logistically challenging events through country that most people say is too hard to get to or through. It’s been running for over 30 years and is organised by Jamie Lawson.

Every year, the Road Boss Rally heads to a different location around Australia. Every fourth year, there is a ‘Super’ event, which means it’s a longer and more difficult route.

The next race will be a Super event, with teams tackling the ‘Alice to Alice’ route via the West Coast and the Kimberley. It’s slated to be the last Road Boss Rally in its current format.

“Our last Super event went from Tasmania to Darwin, and we’ve also done the east coast to the west coast,” said Jamie.

“We typically average between 40 and 80 cars for the rally, depending on where we’re going. With this one being a longer event, we’re expecting about 40 entrants.”

The July event will feature a rally route of about 8000 kilometres. “Then a lot of competitors will make their way over as well, so for Moore Trailers, coming over from Pittsworth, Queensland, it will be about 12,000 kilometres all up,” Jamie added.

This year’s route starts and finishes in Alice Springs, traveling across to the North West coast, taking in remote desert country and communities, then travelling along the coast line of the Indian Ocean, with a three night, two day visit to Broome, then a visit to the Kimberley Ranges before returning to Central Australia.

The Moore Trailers team will tackle the treacherous terrain in their lime green 1973 Ford Fairlane, named ‘The Hulk’.

As Shayne explained, “We participate every couple of years. We all dress up and don’t change for the two weeks either. I’ve been to about 10 rallies myself. Before that my father Lionel was involved for about 20 years, so we have a lot of history with the Road Boss Rally.

“With the next race being a Super event, it means it’s a longer, more arduous and gruelling adventure.”

Through their decades of involvement in the Road Boss Rally, Shayne says Moore Trailers has raised and donated upwards of $500,000.

For around a decade, the event’s chosen charity has been GIVIT.

Founded in 2009 by Juliette Wright OAM, GIVIT is a national not-for-profit that partners with local charities and organisations to connect those in need with generous donors, to ensure that Australians experiencing hardship receive the essential items and services they need, when they need them most.

The donation of all proceeds from the sale of Moore Trailers’ tri-axle dolly, will further add to the event’s fundraising efforts.

This dolly has been built by Moore Trailers, supported by the generous suppliers who have donated to the build: Fuwa K Hitch, Hendrickson, Air Brake Corporation, JOST Australia, Brisbane Refinish Supplies, Australian Tyre Traders, Alcoa Wheels, Signs N’ Lines and Lelox Truck Accessories.
