A truck driver who noticed his prime mover had caught fire while fuelling up at a roadhouse has been commended for his quick-thinking actions.
The incident occurred at Barkly Homestead on the Barkly Highway in the Northern Territory, at about 7.45pm on Thursday May 8, with emergency services responding.
As soon as the truck driver noticed the fire, NT Police said, “The trailers were immediately unhitched, and the driver swiftly and successfully moved the vehicle away from the service station to a safe location along the highway.
“An attempt was made to extinguish the fire with equipment on board, however the prime mover was fully engulfed and destroyed.
“Police commend the truck driver’s actions which prevented any injuries and damage to the trailers or buildings.”
