After its planned arrival at the Victoria/NSW border this weekend, a huge power transformer will continue its journey through New South Wales.
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) says the transformer is scheduled to arrive at the border town of Tocumwal on the afternoon of Saturday June 14. From there, it will start its journey through NSW at 7am on Sunday June 15.
Transported on an oversized vehicle approximately 69.5 metres long and 4.5 metres wide
It will travel via the Newell Highway and will arrive in Forbes at about 4pm.
On Monday June 16, it will depart Forbes at 7am and will travel via the Newell Highway to Dubbo and then via the Mitchell Highway to its destination at Wuuluman in the state’s Central West, where it is scheduled to arrive in the afternoon.
A TfNSW spokesperson said, “NSW Police and company pilot vehicles will accompany the load as it travels at reduced speeds throughout its journey in NSW.
“If approaching the load, motorists are advised to slow down, provide plenty of space and exercise patience at all times. There will be opportunities to pass and motorists should follow the instructions of police.”
TfNSW also offered some simple steps people can follow if they come across the OSOM load, for the safety of all road users, including reducing your speed, moving as far to the left as possible, preparing to stop if necessary following all instructions given by the traffic escort.
“You will be given an opportunity to pass or overtake when it is safe. Do not risk overtaking without ensuring the road ahead is clear and be prepared for unexpected wind buffeting when overtaking,” the spokesperson added.
