Junction upgrade completed on SA’s Southern Ports Highway

A $400,000 upgrade to the junction of the Southern Ports Highway and Southend Access Road in South Australia’s south-east is now complete.

The South Australian Government provided the funding to the Wattle Range Council to construct a left turn lane on the Southern Ports Highway into Southend Access Road.

The work, at Southend between Beachport and Millicent, was funded under the State Government’s $10 million road safety investment package.

SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport said, “The upgrade will reduce the risk of fatal and serious injuries, and increase road safety, by providing a dedicated left turn lane for vehicles turning off Southern Ports Highway into Southend Access Road.

“A safety barrier and road lighting have also been installed as part of the project.

Work commenced in February 2025 and was completed in recent weeks.”

Traffic restrictions in place during works have now been lifted, with speed limits returned to 110km/h.
