The Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland has released a bird’s eye artist’s impression of what the new Curra rest area will look like when finished next year.
Part of the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program, this new stop will offer:
- 25 car parks (including accessible spaces)
- 16 truck bays for semis and B-doubles
- Modern toilets and picnic shelters
- Full disability access
- An off-leash dog area
Construction is now underway and expected to be complete by mid–2026, weather permitting.
Once operational, the new Curra rest area will replace the existing facility in Gunalda, located 8km to the north, which will be permanently closed and the land restored, said the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
this should help solve a pet peeve of truck drivers, cars taking up all the spaces because they typically don’t have any spaces to cater to them.
sounds like a comprehensive design.
but they have forgotten a few spots for caravans
