Ritchie Bros. commemorates 30 years in Australia with record-breaking auction

Ritchie Bros. has marked its 30th anniversary in Australia with a landmark end-of-financial-year (EOFY) auction, and a gala celebration.

Held from June 18-20 in a combined live and online format, the event set new records, highlighting the company’s growing strength in the APAC region with an outstanding performance.

With more than 3700 lots on sale, including excavators, prime movers, dump trucks, graders, trailers, and more, this was Ritchie Bros.’ largest auction by volume in Australia to date. Equipment categories spanned civil construction, transport, and agriculture. Among the top-performing items:

Transport:

  • 2018 UD PW 24.280 Condor 6×4 sold for A$180,000
  • 2018 Kenworth T900 Legend 6×4 sold for A$320,000
  • 2016 Kenworth T409SAR 6×4 sold for A$175,000

Civil Equipment:

  • 2015 Thwaites 9 t 4×4 sold for A$30,000
  • 2019 Cat 249D sold for A$62,500
  • 2018 Cat 432F2 4×4 sold for A$76,000

Agricultural Equipment:

  • 2013 Massey Ferguson 8690 4WD sold for A$180,000
  • 2018 Valtra T234D 4WD sold for A$160,000
  • 2012 John Deere 7200R 4WD sold for A$102,500

The auction achieved over $88 million in gross transaction value (GTV), more than double the total reached in the June 2024 auction – representing a 125.79 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Bidding activity was robust across all categories, drawing a record-breaking turnout of more than 5900 registered bidders.

Most participants – 95.6 per cent were from across Australia, including Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, and the Australian Capital Territory.

The remaining 4.4 per cent were international bidders – representing 37 countries: United States, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and UAE, among others – adding a global dimension to the event. These results highlight the power of Ritchie Bros., demonstrating the capacity to scale across industries and borders while consistently creating value for both consignors and buyers.

Ritchie Bros.’ senior global leadership – including RB Global CEO Jim Kessler – attended the celebration in person, underscoring the region’s strategic significance and the company’s commitment to expanding its presence across Asia-Pacific.

“This auction was a true milestone – not only in its commercial impact but in what it represents for our journey in Australia,” said Kessler. “We’ve spent 30 years building trust, relationships, and opportunities here. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that foundation continue to grow.”

To commemorate its 30th anniversary in Australia, Ritchie Bros. hosted a special customer celebration at Kardinia Park – the iconic stadium and home of the Geelong Football Club. With deep community roots in Geelong, the venue served as a fitting location to mark the milestone. More than 400 long-time customers, partners, and employees gathered to celebrate the company’s legacy and continued growth in the region.
