Over the next few months, there will be major traffic disruptions as crews build new bridges over the Eastern Freeway, as part of Victoria’s Big Build.
The Eastern Freeway will need to close for the first time since it was last upgraded in the 1990s, to build two new walking and cycling bridges over the Eastern Freeway at Heyington Avenue, Mont Albert North and Estelle Street, Bulleen.
The Eastern Freeway will be closed overnight at times from late July to September between Bulleen and Tram roads. These closures may affect one or both directions. Work to build new bridges over the freeway will continue through to the end of 2025.
Road users have been informed to expect intermittent full freeway closures, along with overnight lane and ramp closures, and to plan ahead to avoid delays.
During the closures, crews will also complete works on upgrading the Doncaster Road interchange. These works include building foundations for the city-side of the Doncaster Road bridge, drainage and asphalting works, and installing smart on-road technology.
The latest updates are available on the Eastern Freeway disruptions map.
