Suppliers issue recall notice for electronic braking system

Air Brake Corporation of Aust. Pty Ltd, Air Brake Systems Pty Ltd, Transport Engineering Solutions have issued a recall notice for 920 units of the ZF Trailer Intelligent Electronic Braking System.

The impacted year range is 2023-2025 and the variants are: iEBS Basic Air (Part no. 480 102 203 0), iEBS Basic Steel (Part no. 480 102 105 0), iEBS Premium (Part no. 480 102 403 0), iEBS Premium (Part no. 480 102 413 0), iEBS Standard (Part no. 480 102 303 0) and iEBS Standard (Part no. 480 102 313 0).

In certain circumstances, the acceleration sensor signal may stagnate. If Roll Stability Support (RSS) intervention is required and at the same time the sensor malfunction occurs, the RSS function may not intervene, the notice says.

“Additionally, in the event of an electrical fault in the brake valve, the ABS, EBS, and RSS functions are deactivated, and the trailer warning lamp is illuminated. However, after an ignition reset, the warning lamp may fail to illuminate in approximately 1 per cent of cases, although the ABS, EBS, and RSS functions remain deactivated.”

As a result, trailers may be fitted with a component that is not compliant with Australian Design Rule (ADR) 38/05 – Trailer Brake Systems.

The defect will be rectified by a software update.
