The M80 freeway will close in both directions between Plenty Road and Greensborough Bypass from 7.30pm tonight, Friday September 19 until 5.30am, Monday September 22.
New traffic arrangements on the M80 Ring Road Interchange will also be in place for up to 18 months while crews continue building the interchange behind barriers.
The works are part of the new M80 Ring Road interchange, that will connect to the North East Link tunnels.
Drivers planning to use the M80 Ring Road near Greensborough this weekend are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the area, with delays of up to 60 minutes expected.
At the same time, Greensborough Bypass will also be closed in both directions between Grimshaw Street and the Civic Drive/Diamond Creek Road roundabout.
Detours will be in place via Grimshaw Street, Plenty Road and Diamond Creek Road.
The closure will allow crews to work around the clock on laying asphalt and line marking, removing and installing new traffic lights, lighting, and signage as part of a traffic switch.
Night works will continue on sections of the M80 Ring Road and Greensborough Bypass over the coming months with lane and carriageway closures at times.
Once complete, the M80 Ring Road Completion is expected to take 19,000 cars and trucks a day off Greensborough Road with through traffic passing under Grimshaw Street, Elder Street and Watsonia Road.
The M80 Ring Road Completion is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
