Industry mental health event to be held at rural Queensland pub

Long Road Events, together with Rudd’s Pub, located in the Queensland town of Nobby, will host its second annual mental health awareness day for the transport, rural and civil industries.

It will be held on October 11, from 12pm at Rudd’s Pub, an historic venue built in 1893 that is currently owned by Evan and Gayle Jones.

Long distance truck driver Darren Eyers came up with the idea of using the local pub for an event supporting mental health – and together with fellow members organised for the first fundraising event to take place last November.

As Darren explained, “The day is aimed at mitigating the stigma associated when asking for help/direction when the overwhelming feeling casts a shadow over you.

“We have five specialist guest speakers to talk about mental health detection, correction and maintaining healthy positive thoughts.”

Entry is $10, which include a steak burger or sausage and entry into the lucky door. The day will also feature live music raffles, auctions, competitions, 10 lucky door prizes and a truck and car show and shine.

Tickets are available at the door, and all money raised on the day will go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Rudd’s Pub is located approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes from Ipswich. A camping site is available across the road for a gold coin donation to the Nobby Heritage and Development Association.
