Pickles is breaking new ground in the renewable transport sector, bringing to market what is believed to be Australia’s first hydrogen-powered tilt tray truck auction.
From October 21-23 , Pickles will auction a 2024 Hyzon fuel cell tilt tray – a zero-emissions asset powered by hydrogen.
The truck features a fuel cell system that converts hydrogen into electricity, with an onboard battery and external charging available, offering flexible recharging strategies.
“This is an exciting moment for Pickles and for the heavy transport sector,” said Hugh Rainger, National Manager – Trucks & Machinery at Pickles.
“We’ve never sold anything like this before. Pickles has already established itself as Australia’s largest reseller of used EVs, and now we’re stepping forward again by supporting vendors and buyers in the hydrogen space. This auction offers a one-off opportunity for fleets to trial hydrogen technology and accelerate their journey to decarbonisation.”
Performance and Powertrain
• Motor: 300 kW continuous power, 500 kW peak power
• Fuel Cell: 200 kW continuous power
• Battery: 150 kWh high-voltage battery, 400 Volt system
• Hydrogen Storage: 45 kg onboard (optional 65 kg), 350 bar working pressure
• Fuel Economy: approx. 11 km/kg H₂ (loaded)
• Driving range: 400 km (with 45 kg onboard hydrogen); up to 600 km with optional capacity
The HyMax TT7 also includes an automatic gearbox, air-suspended cab, and advanced safety features such as lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
Refuelling takes around 15 minutes, making it highly practical for fleet operators looking to minimise downtime. The truck also incorporates hydrogen safety systems including leak detection and pressure relief, designed to meet international standards.
“This is a unique chance for fleet operators and logistics companies to get hands-on with hydrogen technology,” Rainger said. “It’s a milestone that underlines our role as a trusted partner for vendors growing in the renewables space, and as a market leader in alternative energy assets.”
