Major works will begin tonight and occur across the weekend, with closures at the Eastern Freeway expected to cause extreme delays.
These works will occur on the Eastern Freeway, as crews work to remove the old Estelle Street bridge as part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades project.
Workers will also carry out utility works, drainage installation and asphalting works on the ramps.
The Eastern Freeway will be closed in both directions between Bulleen Road and Doncaster Road from 10pm Friday November 7 to 5am Monday November 10, 2025.
Transport Victoria has advised motorists to avoid the area and plan an alternate route:
- If you’re driving to the city detour via Doncaster Road and Burke Road
- If you’re driving to the east detour via Thompsons Road, Manningham Road, Williamsons Road and Tram Road.
The following ramps will also be closed:
- Chandler Highway outbound entry ramp
- Elgar Road, Middleborough Road, Blackburn Road and Springvale Road citybound entry ramps.
On road signage will be in place around the area to advise of detours and closures.
Additional works
