Over the weekend, a large pothole reportedly caused serious damage to more than 20 vehicles on the Princes Highway at Nar Nar Goon, in Victoria’s Gippsland region.
Following the incident, a Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) spokesperson has told Big Rigs, “Crews repaired potholes on the Princes Freeway near Nar Nar Goon on Saturday evening and returned on Sunday to complete these works.”

DTP says it will continue to monitor this stretch of road for any issues and make repairs as needed.
Those who sustained damage from this pothole over the weekend, who believes they may be entitled to compensation, can visit the Transport Victoria website to make a claim.
Saturday’s incident follows $976 million commitment announced in May as part of the Victorian Budget 2025/26, to fix potholes and upgrade road surfaces across the state.
However Jason Wood, Federal Member for La Trobe, has slammed the Victorian Government’s inaction in fixing dangerous road conditions.
“Locals have been raising concerns about this road for years. But instead of action, we get blame shifting between departments and levels of government,” Wood said.
“Victorians pay some of the highest taxes in the country. The least we should expect is a safe drive home.”
Victorian National Party leader and Shadow Roads Minister Danny O’Brien also shared his frustrations about the state of Victoria’s crumbling road network, “The Romans could make roads that would last millennia but apparently we can’t build roads to survive a couple of inches of rain,” he said.
