The new electric trucks keep rolling in at Toll, with the company now launching its first electric heavy vehicle program for Perth, in partnership with Coles.
The two new Volvo FM battery electric prime movers are part of Toll Group’s $67 million electric vehicles program, co-funded by government agency ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency).
This follows the recent delivery of 12 new Volvo FM battery electric rigids, in partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP). And two new Volvo FMe Electric 6×4 prime movers to support client BlueScope Steel.
Tolls says these newest electric trucks are part of a co-investment with Coles, with the initiative also including a dedicated dual-port 180kw charging station at Coles’ Kewdale Distribution Centre.
The two new Volvo FM battery electric prime movers will replace diesel-powered trucks – which according to Toll, will reduce CO2 emissions annually by approximately 100 tonnes per vehicle.
Capable of travelling up to 270km on a single charge, these new trucks are expected to complete up to 52 deliveries to Coles stores across Perth each week.
Nick Vrckovski, President Retail & Consumer at Toll said, “Our commitment to a more sustainable logistics future isn’t possible without the support of our key customers. We’re proud of our long-standing partnership with Coles, and this initiative demonstrates how we’re working together to deliver service excellence, safety, and sustainable transport solutions.”
Ian Kitching, State Transport Manager at Coles, added, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to reduce emissions associated with our transportation network. Welcoming our first electric heavy vehicles to our fleet in Perth is more than just a technological upgrade, it’s a long-term investment in developing a more sustainable supply chain.”
