Changed traffic conditions following heavy vehicle bridge strike

There are changed traffic conditions in place on the New England Highway at Liddell, after the Liddell bridge was damaged by a heavy vehicle.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is urgently assessing damage to the bridge and says it will carry out designs and repair work which could take up to three months.

“Due to the severity of impact on the outside bridge girder and the risk of more damage caused by another vehicle hitting it, one of the northbound lanes has been closed on the New England Highway at the bridge location,” TfNSW said.

“The speed limit has been reduced to 80km/h for the safety for motorists while the lane closure is in place.”

Electronic message boards are now on site warning motorists travelling towards Muswellbrook of the lane closure.
