Iconic outback Queensland pub sold

The iconic Walkabout Creek Hotel at McKinlay in outback Queensland has changed hands.

Previously run by Frank and Debbie Wust for many years it was purchased by Angus Brodie and Jo Cranney from nearby Wolseley Downs cattle station.

They also have a paddock-to-plate business, Horizon Grazing, and plan to have beef from there on the menu.

Part of the first Crocodile Dundee movie was filmed there.

“It was a good opportunity for us to diversify, so we don’t have to be so reliant on rain and cattle prices,” Brodie said.

Sitting about an hour from Cloncurry and eight hours west of Townsville, the pub began its life in 1900 as the Federal Hotel.

Following the success of Crocodile Dundee in 1986, the establishment was renamed Walkabout Creek Hotel after the fictional NT watering hole the pub portrayed in the movie.

  1. That pub is not in it’s original site as it was moved after the movie came out and the inside was all decked out looking new and artificial ,nothing like the original that was seen in the movie many people I met there had expected to see when I went there for a drink .
Old pubs have character this pub had none .
