Temporary closure of OSOM access to Cunninghams Gap

Operators of oversize, overmass vehicles should take note of upcoming closures on the Cunningham Highway at Cunninghams Gap.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) said OSOM access will be closed for three days to allow for the demobilisation of tower cranes near the eastbound traffic lane.

The closures are from 6am to 6pm on Monday, January 12, Wednesday, January 14 and Tuesday, January 20.

TMR said access will be temporarily closed to vehicles wider than 2.5 metres and/or longer than 30.0 metres.

All operators can expect travel delays during this time.

The work is part of the ongoing redesign of a 2km section damaged in the 2019 bushfires.

The updated design includes a new rock catch fence built at road level rather than on the slope, resulting in a significant reduction in rock scaling works – alleviating the need for road closures and reducing the impact on communities and industries.

The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

The project is expected to be finished in 2027.
