Truckie Profiles

Veteran truckie on the road for 35 years

New Year’s Day held special significance for veteran driver Bill Kiely who drives a Kenworth T909 for Brown’s Citrus out of their Gayndah depot.

“I started working for Brown’s Citrus on January 1 seven years ago,” he explained.

The 58-year-old mainly carries groceries and was leaving Cunnamulla when Big Rigs yarned to him.

“I have been a driver for 35 years and love it,” he said.

His favourite roadhouse is at Morven and Bill said it ticks all the boxes.

“It has good food, the staff are super friendly and there is lots of parking,” he said.

The St George to Bollin road is the one Bill finds challenging to negotiate.

Bill is a proud dad of son Ryan Kiely who has followed in his footsteps to become a truckie.

“He is a good lad and has been interested in trucks since he was a young boy,” Bill said.

As for a New Year’s resolution Bill was quick to answer, “I would love to win lotto and keep doing what I am doing,” he said.
