OSOM restrictions across Queensland’s Central West

Due to heavy rains, all state controlled roads within Queensland’s Central West District are currently closed to all Oversize Overmass vehicles with a width greater than 3.5 metres.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that restrictions came into play at 8.45am on Monday January 12 and will remain in place until 12.00pm on January 23, 2026.

The Central West District comprises the local government authorities of Barcaldine Regional, Barcoo, Blackall / Tambo Regional, Boulia, Diamantina, Longreach Regional and Winton.

“This restriction is due to ongoing widespread rain resulting in wet and soft shoulders which are unable to carry traffic without causing safety issues to the travelling public and substantial damage to the road shoulders,” said TMR.

“This temporary restriction takes precedence over any current excess dimension permits for the duration of the restriction.”

*UPDATE: The restrictions were originally due to be in place until January 19, however have now been extended until January 23.
