It’s been interesting reading back on my wishes for 2025 – 12 months on and my intentions, goals and dreams are still very much the same.
I wish for better training opportunities, more industry pathways, better facilities for those on the road and continued education/bridging the gap between all road users.
While there are some locations doing a wonderful job to provide great facilities there is still a lot of room for improvement with others.
In 2025, I immersed myself in many conferences and have deepened my understanding of the industry on another level – not just from behind the steering wheel.
It’s been wonderful to see how many people genuinely do care about those on the road and to see first-hand the level of effort going into improving the industry.
I just wish that this messaging could get to those who are literally keeping the wheels moving. Quite often drivers are left thinking no one cares about them and that all these changes are just trying to make their lives harder rather than better.
Upper management of companies hear about updates, technology and legislation but I truly believe there is often a breakdown in communication.
It’s important that drivers understand they are valued and that their opinions matter. Without drivers, freight stops moving.
I hope in my own small way I can continue to spread awareness about these things.
I understand I’m in no position to make huge changes in the industry but I can focus on the small 1 per cent differences I can make.
In 2026 I hope to continue exploring more of Australia and expanding my understanding of the industry – not only within our country but globally.
I hope to be able to show up for the next generation, showing them what is possible within our industry and hopefully inspiring others to see that this is a place they can belong.
Our industry is hurting right now and more than ever we need to be kind to each other.
